Interlude 3 – Triangle Problem #3

Interlude 3 – Triangle Problem #3

This Interlude includes five videos.

Video 1:  This is another tool for solving triangles problems we present in the Trigonometry section of the Foundation.

Video

Video 2:  This is a quick demo of how a Foundations student uses the Generalized Pythagorean and the Corrected Area Formula for a Triangle to create a process for calculating the area in less than one minute when three sides are given.

Video

Video 3:  This would be presented in Tier 3.  It shows another way to “solve” a triangle problem for computing the area from three given sides.

Video

Video 4:  This shows how Heron’s formula could be used.  Again presented in Tier 3.  It leaves open the “mystery” as to where this came from.

Video

Video 5:  This shows Brahmagupta’s formula and an outline of its derivation using trig and how it might lead to Heron’s formula.  It also leads to  some other conjectures as food for thought.
