Who was the “Underdog” most certain of defeat?
Answer: Goliath
Why? Do you know?
Goliath was the most powerful Bronze Age Warrior of either side’s army, including David’s brothers. He was large, powerful and fully armed with the best weapons and armor of a Bronze Age Warrior.
No other Bronze Age Warrior could win in a hand to hand close up combat. King Saul’s warriors were all quite properly afraid of Goliath.
Then along came David, a young shepherd brother of some of King Saul’s warriors. No Bronze Weapons or Armour for David!
David had a revolutionary technology much superior to the Bronze Age Warrior’s technologies, called a Sling.
No Armor. No Close Up fighting. David’s Sling in the hands of a properly trained skilled fighter like David was like a modern powerful pistol. Properly aimed at an open spot in the Armour the Sling’s rock was like a powerful bullet from a modern gun. Deadly.
Goliath never had a chance!
David would never get close enough to Goliath to get hurt. David had no heavy armor and could easily evade Goliath and hurl as many “stones” or “bullets” as necessary until one hit.
